The 2009 IECC will include several major changes that will result in increased energy efficiency for new residential and commercial buildings. The new code represents the first significant increase in energy efficiency since the publication of the first IECC. Residential changes include a requirement for efficient lighting and locating ductwork in conditioned space. Commercial changes include more stringent building envelope requirements, a limit on fan power for HVAC systems and a reduction in allowed exterior. More Details |

A first in this industry, the ICC 700-2008 is now available. According to ICC, the standard provides the "green" practices that can be incorporated into new homes, including high-rise multifamily buildings, home remodeling and additions, hotels and motels, and the site upon which the green homes are located. The green practices include lot design, preparation and development; resource, energy, and water efficiency; indoor environmental quality; and operation, maintenance, and building owner education. The four threshold levels, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Emerald provide builders with a means to achieve basic, entry-level green building, or achieve the highest level of sustainable "green" building that incorporates energy savings of 65 percent or higher. The NGBS can be used by any builder for their individual projects, or be the basis for a local community or state green building program."
From New Building Institute’s website: Don’t miss Promise vs. Performance: A Deeper Shade of Green, published in the October edition of Architect Magazine, addresses the performance of LEED-rated buildings and explores the findings of NBI’s USGBC-commissioned report “Energy Performance of LEED for New Construction Buildings.” |
