Commercial Windows
June 3rd , 10:00 a.m. MST
Glazing is a key element in commercial envelope construction and can often make the difference in the overall energy performance of a building. The International Energy Conservation Code and ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004 contain requirements for window efficiency labeling or certification that can be difficult to understand. For designers, specifiers and enforcement personnel, understanding the technologies, codes and standards requirements, and the labeling and certification process is key to a well performing building.
This 90 minute class will discuss the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004 requirements for commercial windows, and what LEED and other above code programs expect. Through this discussion
You will understand the critical elements of glass, and how its composition affects heat and light transfer. You will understand the measurements of window performance and why each one is important. Glazing types and frame construction will be discussed and you will see how the frame choice affects overall performance. This interactive class will include time for questions and answers.
Finally, we will look at the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) certification process and you will see how to ensure the window specified is the one installed.
